FANFICTION - Tell me how you lost me - Chapter 20
The day after we got married I returned to Yokohama apprehensive on how to break the “news” to Ai. During the entire flight I was practicing the lines that I was going to say to her. I went straight to the office from the airport. I found Ai engrossed with the reports.
“You’re back!! So how’s the conference?” She asked as she got up from her chair when she realized I had been staring at her for quite some time.
“Ammm… It was ok…” I lied.
“So… did you meet up with Satoshi?” she asked sheepishly as we sat on the sofa.
“Yeah I did. We had dinner.” I replied weakly.
“So? Tell me about it.” She said excitedly.
“Anou… Ai… there’s something I need to tell you…” I began.
“What is it? And why do I get the feeling that you did something stupid while you were in Tokyo.” Ai said as she looked at me in the eye.
“Well… anou… I… We… ammmm… How do I say this?”
“Just say it.”
“I dropped by the Human resource office before coming here and they said there’s an opening in Tokyo. Is it possible that you can transfer me there?” I said in Guinness speed of 5 seconds.
“Why? She asked. This time sounding really serious.
“I really don’t have answer to that. Well, it’s not that I’m not happy here but…”
“But you need to be in Tokyo… Where Satoshi is… right?” She finished my sentence for me.
“Ai…”
“Riya… I know you’re hiding something from me… Just tell me what it is… we’re friends remember… I’ll try to understand.” She said
“You won’t get mad if I tell you?” I asked her.
“I will try really hard not to.”
“I… We… got married.” The last words were more of a whisper.
“Huh?’
“Satoshi and I… we got married.” I repeated.
“I knew it! I knew you were going to do something stupid when you asked me to mail your papers. I should have seen it coming. So what’s going to happen now? Is he going to announce it on national TV?”
“No… it’s a secret.” I replied softly.
“What do you mean it’s a secret? I don’t understand.”
“Nobody knows we got married. Not the other members, not his company, not even his family.” I said
“Why? And why did you agree to that?” She asked again.
“I don’t know. I just agreed. I couldn’t get myself to say no. Please Ai… I need you to understand.”
“Riya…”
“I know I could not give you enough reason to understand what I did. Call me stupid but I don’t regret it.”
“What else can I do but understand you? No mater what I do right now, it’s done right? You’re married. God, if this is what falling in love does to a person, then I don’t want to fall in love.” She said in resignation.
“When do you plan to go back to Tokyo?” She asked
“As soon as possible?” I replied.
“Riya… you owe me big time… I’ll call human resource and arrange for your transfer.”
“Ai… Thank you…”
“As long as that …that… person makes you happy I’m ok with it. You know where to find me if you ever wake up from absurdity.”
SATOSHI’s POV
It has been more than I week since Riya and I got married and a 2 days ago she arrived from Yokohama. I was able to close the deal with the owner of the apartment a day before she arrived so the house was basically empty except for a few pieces of furniture. It was a one bedroom apartment not far from my parents house. I made sure of that I could make an excuse that I need to buy something from the store in the corner before going home. In that way I could do away with the guys’ and other people’s suspicions.
Riya on the other hand was a little uneasy when she arrived. Although she’s been transferred to the Tokyo branch, she was still feeling a little bad for ditching Ai. Well I can’t blame her but I know… no… I feel that’s she’s going to get accustomed to being my wife.
We just finished our latest photo shoot for Popolo and the five of us were inside the van on our way home. Since my house was near the location it was decided that I should be dropped off first.
Anou…. Driver san can you stop at the next block? I’m getting off there. I’ll just walk home.” I said as we were nearing the street.
“Huh? Your house is still a block away. Why are you getting off?” Jun who was seated next to me asked.
“I need to buy something.” I replied instantly.
“You’re going to walk home?” Nino asked.
“Yup. It’s ok.” I said as I hurried got off the van.
This went on for almost a two weeks. The guys never suspected anything. I knew I could pull it off, or so I thought. As the saying goes… nothing stays a secret forever.
JUN’s POV
Riida has been acting really strange lately. Every time we bring him home he usually gets off a block away from his house and whenever we pick him up he’s already outside his house. Unlike before we have to honk 5 times before he gets out. I think he’s hiding something. It wouldn’t hurt if I followed him home.
“Driver san can you stop at the next block? I’m getting off there. I’ll just walk home.” Came Riida’s favorite line.
“You’re walking home again?” Nino asked without taking his eyes off his DS.
“Yup. See you tomorrow.” He said as he got off the van.
This is it.
“Driver san wait. I’m getting off too. I just remembered I need to go somewhere.” I said as I got my back and got off the van.
“You’re getting off too? Where are you going?” Sho asked surprised.
“I forgot I’m meeting my sister somewhere.” I just made alibi up.
What the hell am I doing? I asked myself as I followed Riida. He said he was going to buy something from the store but he just passed by it. And why is he heading towards the apartment area of that street when in fact his house is on the other side? Hmmmm…. This is getting more and more interesting.
I watched him stop in front of the door of the last apartment. He dug something out of his pocket. Keys. I heard him say ‘tadaima’ as he entered the house. What is he doing here?
I need to find out.
I walked towards the last apartment and stopped in front of the door. I hesitated for a moment before pressing the door bell.
“Chotto matte…” I heard a voice say.
The door slowly opened…
“Riya????!!!!”
“Jun???!!!” was the last I heard before I felt the door’s flat surface hit my beautiful face.
FANFICTION - Tell me how you lost me - Chapter 19
SATOSHI’S POV
Her answer was unfinished but I did not mind. I eased her head a little bit more to make her comfortable.
I held her hand as I stared outside the bus’ window. Although uncertainty was my dominant emotion during that time, the excitement however was more apparent. She was right. Today was unusual indeed. Unusual in a lot of ways, not that I’m complaining or anything but I think this day is the most unusual day of my life.
Come to think about it, it is more unusual for her. She agreed to marry me just like that. Though she questioned what my real intentions were, she said yes in the end. She knew the risks and troubles she will have to go through but she still agreed.
I glanced outside the window once more. It was getting darker.
“We should be at her hotel in 10 minutes.” I said to myself.
I was about to wake her up when I felt my phone vibrate.
“Nino…” I said seeing the name that registered.
“Hai.” I said as I answered.
“Riida? Where are you?” He asked.
“Why?” I asked in return.
“Let’s drink! My treat!” He said sounding pathetic.
“Why?” I asked again.
“I just want to have a drink with you. And did I mention it’s my treat?” He replied.
“Yes you did. But what I want to know is why. Why are you suddenly so keen on treating me for a drink? The Ninomiser does not usually go and treat people out of the blue.” I said in a mocked voice.
“Shut up. So are you up for it? Are you at home? I’m in the neighborhood I be there in about 5 minutes.” He said sounding really desperate.
“Nino… gomen… I can’t.”
“Nande? Nande? Nande?”
“I’m not at home and I’m in the middle of something. Why don’t you ask Aiba or Jun or Sho?”
“Aiba’s in Chiba, Jun’s having dinner with his sister and Sho’s filming. Wait what do you mean you can’t? And what’s that “in the middle of something”? Are doing something hentai?” He probed.
“Hentai!? Baka! Of course not. It’s something you won’t understand.” I replied defensively.
“Ohno-kun? Where are you?” He asked again this time a little more serious.
“Somewhere… I got to go… bye bye…” I replied in a hurry as I flipped my phone close.
My phone began to vibrate again. Seeing that it was Nino, I decided to turn it off since I know that he’s not gonna stop until he gets answer. He’s becoming more and more investigative lately. Maybe that’s because these past few weeks, he’s been hanging out with Aiba.
“Riya… wake up. We’re near.” Isaid softly as we were nearing the bus stop.
“Hmmm…”
“We’re about to get off.” I said
“Ah. Ok.” She replied.
She began to straighten her shelf and tried to remove her hand from my grasp in the process.
“Don’t.” I said as I tightened my grasp.
After getting off the bus stop, we walked towards her hotel which was just a block away.
“I’ll pick you up around 8 tomorrow ok?” I said when we reached the hotel.
“Can’t we really make it 10?” She said.
“No…” I replied sheepishly.
“Ok … 8:00 then. But let me remind you, you need to buy me breakfast, lunch, dessert and snacks in between.” She shot back.
“Ok. Now go and get some sleep.” I said as I watch her walk towards the elevator.
The following day was more tiring than the day before. Well at least for me. I had to take the driver’s test the entire morning. After the test, which I miraculously passed, Riya and I went and had her papers translated. The day ended with us having shabu-shabu for dinner.
“Ok. The guy said I would be able to get license tomorrow, which means we can go to the City Office right after and get married.” I said as we sat in corner booth of the restaurant.
“That’s it?” she asked.
“That’s what it says on the internet right?” I replied.
“No ceremony?”
“Well, here in Japan, ceremonies are just for formalities. The real wedding happens in the City Office.” I said.
“Why do you sound so knowledgeable all of a sudden?” She asked before popping a piece of meat in her mouth.
“I researched last night. Which means by tomorrow afternoon, were are officially Mr. & Mrs. Ohno Satoshi.” I said smiling.
“Sounds weird doesn’t it?”
“What sounds weird?” I asked her.
“Me, sharing the same name with you. Can you imagine how many girls here in Japan and all over the world would give anything just to have your name?”
“I don’t think it sounds weird. I kinda like the sound of it. Satoshi and Riya Ohno.”
“Well, that’s only applicable when it’s just the two of us right?” She asked while avoiding my gaze.
“Riya…”
“I’m sorry… I’m not gonna bring that topic up again. So what’s going to happen after we get married tomorrow? I need to go back to Yokohama.” She said
“Do you really have to go back? Can’t you just tell Ai that you decided to stay here in Tokyo?”
“I can’t do that. I need to get my things and I HAVE to explain to her personally. Maybe I can ask her to transfer me to the Tokyo branch rather than telling her I’m leaving her and the company.”
“That’s a good idea.”
“Another thing… Where am I gonna live? Surely you can’t bring me home right? Your parents have no clue you’re getting married tomorrow.” She said.
“Oh yeah. I almost forgot about that.” I replied.
“What do you mean? You have not thought about that part yet?” She asked panicking.
“Riya, calm down. I’ll take care of this. By the time you get back from Yokohama, we’ll have somewhere to live.” I said assuring her when in reality I have no idea how to go about it.
“Fine. Just make sure I have a place to stay when I get back. By the way, how are you going to pull this off with the rest of the guys?”
“Don’t worry about it. That’s going to be my problem, not yours. We better head back to our hotel. You need enough rest for tomorrow’s big day.” I said as I ushered her out of the restaurant.
It was late when we returned to her hotel. I reminded her one last time of the time I was going to pick her up.
“Satoshi… wait…” she called out as I was heading towards the entrance of the hotel.
“Nani?”
“What am I going to wear tomorrow?” She asked naively.
“Anou…” I stopped for a moment. What do people wear when they get married? I asked myself.
“Wear anything comfortable.” I replied without hesitation.
“Ok. Bye… see you tomorrow.” She said before walking towards the elevator.
RIYA’s POV
Sleep has been elusive since I got back from the hotel. No matter how I tried to bring myself to sleep, it has successfully evaded me. Maybe this is what they call wedding day jitters. Well some wedding it’s going to be. Honestly, this is not the wedding I have dreamed of. Not that I wanted a grand wedding for myself. All I want was a simple one. In a small chapel maybe, me wearing a simple white wedding dress, no elaborate decorations, just a few people, maybe just family and close friends.
I can’t complain right now can I? Marrying the guy that I am totally crazy about is reason enough for me to have this wedding day jitters. It doesn’t matter if it’s a secret, City office type of a wedding. Just as long as it’s him that I’m marrying.
Hmmm… Will we be able to keep this secret forever?
This was the last question that entered my mind before I fell asleep.
Satoshi was already waiting at the lobby by the time I got down the following morning.
“What took you so long?” He asked when I finally got by his side.
“Sorry. I overslept.” I apologized.
“You really love to sleep don’t you?” He said as held my hand and led me towards the hotel door.
It did not take us a long time to get his license. He proudly shoved it in my face the moment he got it.
“I have a license. I have a license. See…see…” he said bragging.
“I see it. I see it. Now stop.” I said.
“Now all we need to do is, go to the City Office and get married.” He said smiling.
“Satoshi…”
“Hmmm…” “Are you sure about this?” I asked as we rode towards the City Office.
“ Aren’t you?” He returned the question.
“ I don’t know… But… Don’t mind me… Let’s just get this done.”
When we arrived at the City Office we were asked to fill out some forms and some other stuff before letting us inside a room. The guy inside asked us for our papers and asked where our witnesses were.
“We need witnesses?” Satoshi asked in disbelief.
“Yes. Otherwise, I can’t marry you.” The guy replied.
“What are we going to do now? Where are we going to look for witnesses?” I asked as panic was starting to escalate.
“Chotto matte. I’ll be back in a few minutes.” He said a he rushed out of the office.
“Satoshi… where are ….” I was not able to finish my sentence as the door of the room closed with a bang.
Satoshi came back a few minutes later bringing in with him an old woman and a guy in a chef’s uniform.
“Ok. Here’s our witness now can you marry us?” he asked the guy in between catching his breath.
“Satoshi… where did you…” I began to ask.
“Later. Let’s get married first.” He cut me off.
“Anou… are you ok with this?” the guy who’s supposed to marry us asked.
“What do you mean? Is there a problem?” Satoshi asked back.
“No… no… what I mean is, are you ok getting married wearing just that?” He asked pointing at our “outfits” which consists of jeans, shirts and sneakers.
“Yeah we’re ok. Now can you marry us?” Satoshi replied sounding a little impatient.
“Ok.” The guy replied shaking his head in disbelief.
The ‘ceremony’ was quick and straight forward. The guy asked us a few questions and we answered. Before he ended, he turned to both of us and said.
“Well since you’re the last couple I’ll be marrying today, I’ll give you the opportunity to say your vows. You first.” He said before addressing Satoshi.
“Ehh?” he said surprised.
“Go on… say our vows.” The guy proded.
“What am I supposed to say?” Satoshi asked him again.
“Whatever you want to say. You’re the one getting married not me.”
“Well it’s my first time to get married, how should I know what to say?” He reasoned out.
“Just say anything you want to say to her.” I guy answered.
“Anou… Riya… ehhh… anou…. Ganbatte ne!”
“That’s it?” the guy asked not believing what he just heard.
“Yes, that’s all. Riya, your turn.” He said turning to me.
“Ha?! Anou… ahh… Ganbatte?!!!” I replied.
“You both are weird… Anyway congratulations.” The guy said before leaving the room.
That day I officially became Mrs. Ohno Satoshi.
Her answer was unfinished but I did not mind. I eased her head a little bit more to make her comfortable.

FANFICTION - Tell me how you lost me - Chapter 18
“No, they’re not.” He replied.
“Yes, they are… well at least for me.”
“Riya... this is different.”
“How is it different?” I asked.
“I’ll make sure I keep them.” He answered.
“Yeah right. That’s what everybody says.” I said smirking.
“Riya.. believe me…” he assured while reaching out for my hand.
“I don’t know… I don’t think this is the right thing.”
“What do you mean?”
“Don’t you get it? You, me, together … it’s not going to work. There are a lot of things that’s not going to turn out ok.”
“I don’t care about those things…”
“Don’t say that…” I cut him off.
“I really don’t care… All I know right now is I want to marry you.”
“Satoshi! Be reasonable for once in your life. It’s not going to work.”
“I’ll make it work. We’ll make it work. Together.” He said still not letting go of my hand.
“We can’t make it work. Why can’t you understand that?” I asked
“Because I refuse to understand it! Riya… listen to me…”
“No, you listen to me… You know why it’s not gonna work? Let me tell you why it’s not gonna work. One, you’re an idol, I’m a nobody. Idol’s usually end up with another idol. Sssshhhh… let me finish.” I said gesturing him to shut up.
“Two, your management company’s going to throw a fit when they find out. Three, I’m not your type. Four, I live in Yokohama, you live in Tokyo. Five, and the most important of all… I’m not your girlfriend. Why would I marry you?” I enumerated.
“Are you finished? Am I allowed to speak?” He asked
I nodded.
“Ok, one, it does not mean that, just because I’m an idol I have to end up with another Idol. I am human too you know. I decide who I want to end up with. Two, the jimusho does not have to know. What they don’t know won’t hurt them. Three, who says you’re not my type? Four, if we get married you obviously need to live here in Tokyo. And lastly, Do you have to be my girlfriend for me to marry you?”
“BAKA!!! Of course! What makes you think that I would just go and marry you when I don’t even know what’s going on between the two of us?” I was trying to stop myself from hitting him with the pepper shaker.
“I thought you like me?” he said softly.
“Well I do like you but…”
“Then what’s the problem?” he asked.
“This is not how I imagined it to be. This is not the kind of proposal I want to receive. Well… not that I expect something romantic from you but what I’m trying to say is we could have at least gotten to know about each other in a different level.”
“I don’t get it. We’ve known each other for more than 4 months. We’re good friends now aren’t we?” he asked confused.
“That’s basically my point. We’re friends. That just about it. Friends don’t go asking one another to marry them in an instant.” I replied.
“Haven’t you heard of friends getting married? It’s actually quite popular.”
“Stop being a smart ass! You know that’s not what I’m trying to point out here.”
“Riya… for once in my life I have actually been serious about something and here you are thinking I’m being unreasonable. Can’t you believe me this once?” he asked sincerely.
“I don’t know… I… I… You’re putting a lot of pressure on me. I need to smoke.” I said as took the pack of cigarette out of my bag.
“You don’t need that.” He said as he grabbed the pack from my hand and crushed it.
“What did you do? That was a new pack. I just bought that.” I exclaimed not believing what just happened to my beautiful unopened pack of cigarettes.
“Since we’re getting married, I don’t want you to smoke. It’s not good for you.” He said.
“You smoke too don’t you? Then why are you asking me to stop? Plus, I don’t remember saying yes to your proposal just yet.” I reasoned.
“Riya… focus! Your cigarettes are not the issue here. We need to finalize this. I need you to say yes so we can get this done before you go back to Yokohama.” He said, bringing the topic back to his proposal.
“You are harassing me!”
“I’m not harassing you. I’m asking you to marry me.”
“You’re not asking, you are imposing!”
“Ok… ok… I’m going to ask you one last time. Just give me a truthful answer ok? Riya… will you marry me?” he asked while holding my hand but this time in a more gentle tone.
I looked at him straight in the eye as my ego tried weigh the options. But my id acted too fast that before my superego could contradict, the word just came straight out of my mouth.
“Yes…” I said softly.
“Yes what?” he asked.
“You asked a question. I just answered.” I replied.
“Oh yeah right… Eeehhh? You mean you will marry me?” He asked again as if he did not understand what I just said.
“Ok… I take it back…”
“No… no… no… you can’t take it back… it’s rude.”
“Rude?”
“Yeah… or whatever so you can’t take back your answer anymore. Ok… so what are we going to do now?” He asked.
“I don’t know. Why are you asking me? You mean you have not thought this through?” I returned the question.
“Well… I know that we have to get married at a City office or something. So do we just go there or do we have to call for a schedule?” he asked me again.
“Satoshi… let me remind you… between the two of us, you are the Japanese national ok. I’m a foreigner. What do I know about your laws?” I emphasized.
“Oh yeah… sorry… hmmm… what do we do now?”
“Why don’t you call your parents and ask them how they got married?” I suggested.
“What? No, I can’t do that.” He replied.
“Why not?” I asked again.
“Coz, they don’t know that I’m getting married. Or that I asked you to marry me.” He said trying to avoid my gaze.
“Why?” I asked again this time sounding a bit frustrated.
“I don’t want them to know. I don’t want other people to know.” He replied softly.
“Why? Coz I’m not within your league? If you don’t want anyone to know you’re getting married then why did you ask me to marry you? I’m confused.” I asked.
“Riya that’s not it. “ he replied.
“Then what is it? Just give me an explanation.”
“I don’t want them to know coz it might leak out.”
“Yeah right… It all boils down to you being an idol and being public property.” I replied sarcastically.
“Riya…”
“It’s ok… don’t worry I’m not going to back out from this. So do you have any other rules that I need to know before we get this ‘so called marriage’ on the go?” I asked sarcastically.
“Riya… don’t worry… I promise…” he began
“I said don’t make promises! They’re meant to be broken.”
“No Riya… Let me make this promise. I promise that I will do everything I can to make this relationship work out. You’ll not regret making this decision.” He assured.
“Ok whatever. There’s always divorce…” I said the last sentence in a hushed voice.
“So what are we going to do now?” I asked trying to shake of the uneasiness that was there for a moment.
“Well… we could…” he began
“Why don’t we search the internet. I’m sure we’re bound to find something.” I suggested.
“That’s a great idea! Let’s go.” He said as he grabbed my handed and headed towards the door.
“Satoshi slow down!” I said as I was being dragged out of the door.
I was dragged two blocks down the road all the way to the internet café. We googled for all the possible answers to the questions that we had earlier. After an hour of searching we knew what we needed to do to “get married”.
“Ok. So we need to have your birth certificate translated and I need to get my koseki tohon.” He said as we walked out of the café.
“ My papers are in Yokohama.” I replied.
“Can’t you ask Ai to mail it?” He asked me again
“Ok… wait I’ll call her… hold on.” I said while I was dialing Ai’s number.
“Hello? Ai? Hi… yeah… wait… I need something from you. Can you mail me my birth certificate? It’s in my files on top of the drawer? Just use the hotel’s address. Can you mail it today? Yeah… Oh it’s nothing. I just need it tomorrow. Yeah… Ok. Thanks.” I said before flipping my phone close.
“So what did she say?” He asked.
“Yeah she’s going to mail it today. I should be getting it by lunch tomorrow.” I replied.
“Ok. That’s good. So we just need to translate it tomorrow and then we can go to the City Office before it closes tomorrow.” He said while we were walking towards the bus stop.
“Ok. I still have time to go to the conference in the morning.”
“Can’t you just skip the conference tomorrow?” he asked.
“What? I can’t do that.” I said.
“Just say you’re sick or something.”
“I don’t know...”
“Please? We need to translate your papers tomorrow.” He begged.
“Wait… “ I said as I got the paper where we wrote the requirements.
“What?” he asked.
“I knew it! The odds are not in our favor.” I said as I shoved the paper in his face.
“What? What? What is it?” he asked.
“We need your driver’s license that’s what.” I replied.
“Why?” he asked
“Because it says here that you need to have a driver’s license.” I replied.
“That’s easy. I’ll get one then.” He said with conviction.
“You seem so optimistic about this.”
“Of course I am. I can get a license in just 2 days. Well that’s how long Aiba-chan got his license.” He replied enthusiastically.
“Oh… alright. So that means I can still go to the conference then if you’re going to get your license tomorrow.”
“Riya… stop thinking about the conference for once. This is a serious matter.”
“Well you said you’re going to get your driver’s license tomorrow right? So I can go to the conference tomorrow while you can go and get your driver’s license.” I explained.
“Riya… I need moral support!”
“Why? You’re practically a grown up. You don’t need me there.” I said
“Of course I need you there. What if I don’t know what to do? Who am I going to ask?” He returned the question.
“Well even if I’m there, you won’t get any answers from me. I don’t know how to drive remember?” I reminded him.
“Riya… please… please… I just need you to be there for me…” he pleaded.
“Ok fine! But you have to buy me lunch and dessert and snacks.” I demanded.
“No problem! Ok so it’s settled. I’ll pick you up at the hotel tomorrow 8AM.” He said
“Why so early? Can’t we leave at around 10:00?” I bargained as we stood by the curb waiting for the bus to come into view.
“So we could get a lot of things done. You could sleep all you want when everything’s done.” He replied.
“You know what? You are unusually perky today. I just realized it.” I said as we got on the bus.
“What do you mean?” he asked as we sat in the middle portion of the half empty bus.
“Well you seemed to be rushing into doing stupid things. You are unusually talkative and bossy today. It’s so not you. What’s wrong?” I asked.
“Nothing’s wrong. I just want us to get married, and don’t ask why again coz this discussion is not going to end there I know it.” he said smiling.
The ride back to my hotel was quite a long one since we got stuck in traffic. I was so tired that I could not resist resting my head by the window trying to catch some sleep. I was about to close my eyes when he held my head and guided it towards his shoulder. I looked at him with droopy eyes and he just smiled back as he patted my head.
I was already half asleep when he asked out of the blue…
“Riya…”
“Hmmm?”
“Why did you say yes?” he asked.
“Say yes to what?” I asked back.
“Say yes when I asked you to marry me?”
“I don’t know…”
“What do you mean?”
“Well you asked so I answered.” I replied while trying to stay awake.
“That’s all?” he asked again.
“Well, there ‘s also the part where I………….” and sleep has totally taken over.

FANFICTION - Tell me how you lost me - Chapter 17
The following week, Ai and I were headed to Tokyo. I was a wreck the night before. It was already past 1AM and I still had not completely packed. Every time I seemed to be “packed” I would remember something and redo the packing all over again. By the time I had finished, it was already 4AM.
All the time we were travelling to Tokyo I was uneasy. I kept fidgeting in my seat.
“Riya-chan stop moving! You’re becoming really annoying.” Ai said.
“Sorry! It’s just that I can’t believe my luck. I’m on my way to Tokyo to watch an Arashi concert. How cool is that?”
“Yeah I know! Just don’t forget what I told you before. Take it slow. You don’t know what lies ahead.”
“Yeah.. yeah.. I get it. He’s an IDOL. I’m a NOBODY.” I replied sarcastically.
“That’s not what I meant. I just want you to take it slow and weigh the odds ok?”
“You sound like an old maid. No wonder you have no boyfriend.” I retorted.
“Oh shut up. Go to sleep. Your eyebags are showing.” Ai said as she hit me with the book she was holding.
The trip to Tokyo became the turning point of my life. The concert was superb as usual. The guys even invited Ai and I for a dinner after the show. Although Satoshi may have not said a lot during that time, being with him just made my day. I would usually catch him staring and when I ask him what he wanted, he’d just shake his head and say nothing. Right there and then I decided I wanted to stay in Japan.
I was a bit depressed when we returned to Yokohama three days after. Ai could not be away from the office for a long time, so even if I wanted to stay in Tokyo, I had no choice but go back to Yokohama.
I began officially working for Ai’s company after we got back from Tokyo. Ai had to rush the arrangement of my papers for me to legally work in Japan. I started out as an assistant for one of the managers. Although Ai wanted me to take charge of the research department, I had to start from the bottom. In addition to that I had to take Japanese lessons 2 hours everyday just so I could communicate better.
All those times, Satoshi has never failed to call or send me a mail. It was funny every time he calls. He would always try to say the things he wants to say in just a few words so I could understand. Although there was nothing concrete with what we have, I was happy with it. At least he knows I exist. How many fangirls would die just to have what I have with him?
It has been almost 4 months now and our conversations seemed to have taken a step up. With that I mean, he does not have to use just words to talk to me. I can now talk to him in sentences. Thanks to my weekend marathon of my all time favorite cartoon, Voltes V.
It was a cool September day when the thing that Ai dreaded the most happened. I was in Tokyo for a conference when I received his call.
“Riya, where are you?” he asked.
“I’m at a conference. Why?”
“What time do you get off?”
“ Maybe around 3PM. Why”
“Do you remember the restaurant we went to the last time you were here?” He asked.
“Yes.” How could I forget. I said to myself.
“Can you meet me there? There’s something I need to say.” He said.
“Why can’t you say it now.?”I asked
“ I need to say it to you in person.” He said sounding anxious.
“Oh ok. See you at 3PM.” I said before hanging up.
I was totally lost in space during the entire conference. My thoughts were trying to do a fast forward towards three o’clock. By the time the last speaker said thank you I was already flying out of the door and hailing a cab.
He was already seated in the corner booth when I arrived. He was fidgeting with the chopsticks. I stared a him for a moment before joining him.
“Hi. Sorry I’m late the taxi made a wrong turn.” I said as I slid onto the seat in front of him.
“It’s ok I just arrived myself.” He replied while still trying to play with the chopsticks.
“So what is it you wanna say?” I began.
“Anou.. don’t you think we should order first?” He asked.
“I’m not hungry. They served a lot of food during the conference. But if you’re hungry, go on and order something.”I replied.
“It’s ok. I’m not hungry either… I just want to get this over and done with.” The last sentence was more of a whisper.
“What?”
“Riya...” he began
“Hmmm?”
“Whatdoyousaywegetmarriedandspendtherestofourlivestogether?” He asked incoherently
“What? I didn’t get it. Say it again.” I said
“This harder than I thought.” He said wiping the sweat from his forehead.
“Satoshi, what’s wrong? You’re as white as a ghost? Are you ok?” I asked him.
“Yeah I’m ok.. Ok.. again… whatdoyousaywegetmarried?” He asked again still incoherently.
“Satoshi! You’re eating your words. Say it one at a time. I did not go here just so you could play games with me. Come on. I still have another conference tomorrow.” I said trying to sound annoyed.
“Well it’s not easy!” he retorted.
“What? What is not easy?” I asked.
“Asking you to marry me. There I said it.” He answered.
I was too stunned with what I heard that I was catatonic for almost 3 minutes.
“Say something. Please….” He pleaded.
“What do you want me to say?” I asked.
“Anything… Something good I hope.” He replied.
I breathed deeply three times before I could muster enough courage to ask him.
“Why?” I asked.
“What do you mean?” he returned the question.
“Why? Why are you doing this? Why are you asking me to marry you? Why me? Why now? WHY?”
“I don’t know.” He replied softly.
“That’s not the answer I want to hear.” I said
“Then what do you want to hear?” He asked.
“Something worth believing. Something real. Something that would want me to say yes...”
“Riya…”
“Something for me to hold on to…”
“Riya… I promise…” he began.
“Don’t!” I cut him off
“Don’t what?” he asked
“Don’t promise.” I answered.
“Why?”
“Coz promises are meant to be broken.” I said softly.
FANFICTION - Tell me how you lost me - Chapter 16
Satoshi’s POV
It has been over a week since Yokohama and I was still at a loss whether to call her or not. I was sitting in our dressing room, staring at the painting I made while holding my cellphone, confused on what to do.
“Satoshi, the painting’s gonna melt in 3 seconds if you continue to stare at it.” Sho remarked.
“Huh?” I did not realize that he has been watching me the whole time.
“I know you want to call her but why are you hesitating?” he asked again as he sat beside me and joined me in staring at the painting.
“I don’t know what to say.” I replied.
“Well why don’t you tell her you want to show her the painting. She wanted to see it right?” Sho advised.
“Am I hearing this right? Sho Sakurai giving Ohno-kun advice on girls.” Nino said as he entered the dressing room.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Sho asked.
“Betsuni.” Nino answered smirking.
“Anyway, going back to Ohno-kun’s dilemma, I still think you should give her a call.” Sho said.
“I hate to say this but I agree with Sho-kun. Instead of sulking and wondering about the possibilities, why don’t you pick up the phone, dial her number and talk to her. You know you’ve actually been spacing out most of time the past week. Not that you don’t space out often but it got worst and it’s getting creepy.” Nino said as he sat on the other side of the couch, joining both Sho and I as we stared at the painting,
“I told you, I don’t know what to say plus I’m not sure if she wants to talk to me. There’s also the question if she’s still here in Japan.” I said.
“Well you’ll never know unless you dial her number and talk to her.” Nino said handing me my cellphone.
“ But… but…but…”
“ No buts Satoshi. We’ve had enough. If you’re thinking that we aren’t affected with what ever it is that’s bothering you, then you’re wrong. We are more than affected, First, you’re getting sloppy with the dance routines, second, you space out more than usual and lastly, I get annoyed with your endless sighs while you stare at that painting.” Nino scolded.
I turned to Sho as if asking him to help me but he just shrugged his shoulders.
“Yosh! I guess I have to do this.’ I said as I dialed and waited for the other line to ring.
Riya’s POV
“ Riya-chan… Riya-chan… RIYA-CHAN!!!”
“Huh?”
“Snap out of it! You have been blankly staring into space for the last 10 minutes with that silly grin painted on your face. What’s wrong with you?” Ai asked as we were sitting on the bench waiting for the bus.
“Nothing. I just remembered something.” I lied.
“ Don’t give me that crap. You’re day dreaming again aren’t you?”
“No. I told you I just remembered something.” I replied guiltily.
“Yeah right. Come on Riya you’ve been like that for almost a week. Snap out of it. You only got 2 weeks left. I think it’s time you enjoy Japan rather than daydreaming while holding that necklace or staring at your camera.”
“Don’t worry Ai, I’m enjoying Japan more than you can imagine.” I replied as the bus came to stop in front of us and we started to board.
“Riya-chan, that is beside the point. You have two weeks left and until now you have not decided whether you’re gonna stay here or not. “
“Ai, two weeks is enough time for me to decide whether I want to stay or not.” I reasoned while holding the necklace around my neck.
“I know that. But not on my end. I need enough time to arrange your papers. Will you stop smiling like an idiot?”
“What? I can’t help it. Ok, ok. I’ll decide by the end of the week.” I assured her as we got off the bus.
“Ok I’ll hold on to that. Anyway, let’s have lunch at the newly opened restaurant across the street. I heard the food’s really great and cheap.” Ai said as we entered the building that houses their company.
“Ok as long as it’s your treat.” I replied.
“It’s always MY treat.” Ai said.
We were waiting for the elevator when her phone rang.
“Who is it?” I asked excitedly.
“I don’t know. The number’s not registered on my phonebook.” She replied.
“Oh…” I answered sounding a little frustrated.
“Moshi moshi? Hai! Ai desu. Dare desu ka?”Ai asked the person on the other line.
I was about to step away from her and move closer to the elevator door when she grabbed my wrist. I looked at her and saw her mouthing something in between answering the person on the other line.
“What?” I asked her in a low voice.
She began pointing her cellphone excited while still trying to tell me something.
“What?’ I asked again.
“Chotto matte.” She told the person on the other line, covered the mouth piece before saying …
“Ohno... here … Yokohama… you … eat… lunch..” she said the words while holding her breath.
“Huh?” I was confused.
“Ohno’s here in Yokohama and he’s asking if he can have lunch with you.” she said in lightning speed.
“Yeah right. You’re not gonna fool me with that crap.” I retorted before turning my back at her.
“No. no. no. no. no. Not kidding….true… true…” She said while shaking her head. It’s funny seeing her become really stupid at times considering she’s the vice-president of their company.
“What are trying to say?” I asked her
“What I’m trying to say is, Ohno’s on the other line and he’s asking if you want to have lunch with him.” She replied sounding annoyed.
“What? What? What?” I was panicking.
“Stop panicking. Just answer, do you want to have lunch with him?” She asked.
“Ye… ye.. yess…” I stuttered.
“Hai Ohno-kun. Hiru yasumina Juni ji kara desu. Ja ne.” Ai said before flipping her phone close.
I was still too stunned to talk as Ai dragged me inside the elevator. We were already inside her office when I was able to pull myself together and ask her.
“What did he say? Is he really here? Does he really want to see me?” I asked her non-stop.
“Slow down… I’ll answer them one at a time. Yes , he’s really here. I guess he does want to see you since he’s invited us for lunch. He’ll come at around 12NN. Satisfied?”
“Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” I exclaimed as I dropped down onto the sofa while trying to suppress the scream that wanted to escape from my throat.
“Riya… I don’t want to burst your bubble but …” I began
“But what?” I asked.
“He’s an idol. He belongs to no one. Rather he belongs to everyone. Don’t do anything stupid. OK?” Ai said in her more serious tone.
“Ai… don’t you think I know that? And what stupid thing could I possibly do? It’s not as if he wants to marry me.”I replied.
“I know. But most of the time you tend to forgo logic for your impulsiveness. I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
“Don’t worry I won’t! I’m just trying to live this dream one moment at a time.” I replied.
The hours to seemed to slow down towards 12:00. I kept glancing at the wall clock every 15 minutes.
“Here. So you won’t strain your neck.” Ai said as she placed the clock on top of my desk seeing that I was not able to get anything done in the past 3 hours.
The minute the clock struck 12 I stood up, took my bag and walked towards, Ai’s desk.
“What?” she asked as she looked up from being to immersed in the papers in front of her.
“It’s 12” I said as I pointed my watch.
“He hasn’t called yet. Let’s wait for him to call. OK?” She replied as she returned to the papers she was signing.
At exactly 12:02, Ai’s cellphone rang. I quickly stood up from the sofa and rushed towards her.
‘You’re not excited are you?” She mockingly asked before answering her phone.
“Hai… hai… ja ne…”
Ai stood up, got her bag and headed towards the door without even saying a word.
“AI!!!!!” I shrieked.
“What?” She replied as she was about to open the door.
“Where are you going? You did not even tell me who that was on the phone.” I demanded.
“I thought you knew. You were waiting for that call remember? What are still doing there? Let’s go. They’re waiting downstairs.” She replied as she walked out of her office and headed towards the elevator.
“Aaaiiii… wait up.” Was all I could say after grabbing my bag and running after Ai who was now holding the elevator door open for me.
I was holding my breath as the elevator door opened upon reaching the ground floor. By the time we were in the lobby I was already a bit blue from holding my breath not to mention shaking uncontrollably.
“Riya... breathe. If you don’t you’re gonna collapse any minute.” Ai remarked trying to hold the laughter.
We were nearing the front door when someone tapped my shoulder from behind.
I anxiously turned around to see who it was.
“Hisashiburi desu ne.” The guy who has been the subject of my millions of daydreams said as he bowed. Beside him stood, Nino who had the look that was between, amusement and disbelief.
Lunch was a bit relaxed. It felt as if we knew one another for quite sometime. Although conversing with them was a little bit tough for me since Ai had to translate it. I was able to grasp a few words and phrases from their answers. Thanks to that rush Japanese course I took before leaving. We were in the middle of deciding what dessert to eat when Nino asked.
“Riya-chan, how long are you going to stay here in Japan?”
I almost choked on the juice I was drinking.
“Yes Riya-chan, how long do you INTEND to stay?” Ai repeated the question. This time with emphasis as if letting me remember our conversation earlier that morning.
“Ahhmmm, well… I… I’m still thinking about it.” I awkwardly replied.
“Ah sou ka? Anou… Coz if your staying long, Satoshi was wondering if you would like to come to Tokyo and watch our concert.” Nino asked while sheepishly looking at Ohno
“Of course she’d like to come and watch your concert. When is that?” Ai answered for me since I was too shocked to answer.
“It’s next week. If you guys could come, give us a call and we’ll give you your tickets. Ok?”
It looked really strange that both Ai and Nino were talking in our behalf since Ohno looked too shy to talk while I was still in a state of shock.
“Ok so it settled. We’ll see you next week. So what do you guys want for dessert?” Nino asked while browsing the menu.
“Chocolate.” I quickly replied.
“Riya… I thought you…” Ai, asked
“Screw the allergies! I’m just so happy right now that I need to eat chocolate. Just don’t forget to bring me to the hospital if I get worse.” I replied.

FANFICTION - Tell me how you lost me - Chapter 15
Riya’s POV
I was smiling like an idiot as I skipped towards the hotel lobby.
Who would have thought that my first time here in Japan would be my most memorable trip ever. I got to meet the guy I had been fantasizing for the last 6 months not to mention he wants to see me AGAIN!
I was still on cloud nine as I finished packing my things. I could not get myself to sleep. I was trying to relive the last few hours. I got my camera out and began to stare at their picture again. I was in that position when the phone rang.
“Miss Riya, there ‘s an Ai Fujimoto for you on the other line. Would you accept the call?” the operator asked.
“ Ok. I’ll take the call.” I replied.
“Riya-chan? Are you packed? Wee will be arriving at your hotel in 10 minutes.” Ai said.
“Huh? Wait what time is it?” I asked.
“I’ts past 10 am.” She replied.
“WHAT?” I screamed as I glanced at the wall clock. The long arm was somewhere between two and one and the short hand was pointing at ten.
That’s not possible. Does this mean I have not closed my eyes and gone to sleep since the guys brought me home last night? This is bad.
“Riya-chan…? Are you still there?” Ai asked from the other end.
“Sorry. Yup still here. I’ll be waiting in the lobby. Ten minutes?” I said.
“Yup 10 minutes. We’re leaving now. Bye. See you later.” Ai said before hanging up.
It was nearly 10:30 when Ai and her driver arrived. After checking out, we decided to have an early lunch.
“So what do you want to eat? We can try the yakiniku restaurant around the corner? Mom went out with her friends so there’s nothing to eat at home right now.” Ai said as helped me load my bags at the back of their car.
“That would be fine. Well I can eat anything right now.” I replied smiling.
“You know what there’s something different. You’re too perky. How many cups of coffee did you have?” She asked.
“I’m caffeine free for today.”
“So what’s with that stupid smile painted on your face?”
“This!” I relied as I shoved the camera in front of her eyes.
“Where did you get this?” she asked.
I told her the entire story complete with actions and some side comments from time to time.
“That’s amazing! It’s like a scene out of a movie.” Ai said after I told her what had happened the night before.
“Oh and Ai,I forgot to tell you. I gave them your number.” I said as we entered the restaurant.
“Why?”
“They were asking for it.” I relied as we sat at the corner table.
“Hmmm… does this mean, you’re going to see them again?”
“I hope so.”
We were in the middle of scanning the menu when Ai’s mobile phone rang.
“Moshi moshi... Riya-chan?... dare desu ka?... ahh… matte… Riya-chan… it’s Sho.” She said while still covering the mouth piece after she answered the phone.
“He… he… hello…” I stuttered as I answered the phone.
“Riya-chan… this is Sho. Are you still in the hotel? Satoshi wants to give you something.” Sho said.
“I checked out. I’m having an early lunch with Ai.” I relied.
“Where are you right now? We’ll just go there.”
“We’re in a yakiniku restaurant just around the corner of the hotel. It’s not hard to miss.” I said.
“Ok we’ll be there in 5 to 10 minutes. Bye.”
“Bye…” I said after Sho hung up.
“What? What did he say?” Ai asked excitedly.
I smiled . “They’re coming here.”
I anxiously waited for them to arrive. Every time the door chimes sounded I would turn around to see whether it was them. Then on the 5th chime, I saw the familiar lump of head hidden under the same fisherman’s hat I saw the night before. Three guys were walking towards our table and stopped in front of it.
Sho took his sunglasses off and asked if they could sit with us.
The other two followed suit and took their glasses off but not their caps. Ai stood up and sat beside me to allow the three guys to sit. Ohno was squashed between Sho and the other guy who turned out to be Nino.
“Ahhmmmm… how come there’s just the three of you?” I asked after introducing Ai to them.
“Ahh… the other two are outside waiting in the van. I don’t think it’s advisable for the five of us to come in altogether.” Sho replied.
Ohno was clutching on a small paper bag as he whispered something to Sho.
“Oh yeah right. Riya-chan… Satoshi want to give you something. Go on give it to her.” Sho said as he nudged Ohno.
Ohno pushed the small paper bag in front of me while still looking down.
Satoshi’s POV
I pushed the small paper bag in front of her but I could not bear to look at her. What has come over me? Why am I acting like a high school boy in front of his crush? I thought.
“What’s this?” Riya asked as she opened the bag.
“Wait! Don’t open it yet. Open it when we’re gone.” I said panicking not realizing I was talking to her in Japanese.
“Huh?”
“He said open it when they’re gone.” Ai said.
“Why?” Riya asked.
“Ehhh…” I could not think of a reason other than me being shy.
“It’s a surprise.” Nino said coming to my rescue.
“Oh. Ok. Thank you, but why are you giving me this? Not that I don’t appreciate it, but why?” Riya asked.
“Let’s just say it’s a token for being cooperative.” Sho answered.
“Cooperative?” Riya asked again.
“Let me put it this way. Satoshi likes to draw, paint, anything that has got to do with art. And for the last five days you have been his… uhmm…model. That’s why he’s giving you that as a gift.” Sho explained.
“Me? Model? When?” Riya asked, confused.
“In the park. It’s kinda hard to explain but in short Satoshi drew you while you were in the park.”
‘’Ah… Can I see the drawing?” Riya asked.
“Sorry it has been packed already. Maybe next time or maybe we’ll just send you a picture of it in your mail. Anyway, we have to leave now. I bet those two are already contemplating of dragging us out of here.” Sho said.
“Sho-kun wait.” I said as I grabbed Sho’s arm who was already preparing to leave.
“What?”
“Tell her to keep in touch.”I said.
Sho relayed the message and the three of us started to head out of the door. I took one last glance at Riya. She was holding on to the paper bag and she was smiling. I silently wished that it would not be the last time I see that smile.
Riya’s POV
I was tightly holding on to the paper bag that contained Ohno’s gift. I could not wait to open it that the moment Ai informed me that they were out of the restaurant I opened the small paper bag.
Inside was a small box with a letter folded on top of it.
I opened the box and inside was a silver necklace. I took it out and on it hang a cherry blossom pendant. I handed the necklace to Ai who examined it excitedly. I unfolded the note that came along with it. It was in Japanese. I shoved the paper to Ai and demanded that she translate what was written on it.
Riya-chan,
It never crossed my mind that I would one day get to like the cherry blossoms. Seeing them fall usually means that vacation is over. But watching you wait for them to fall has made me realize something. It made me realize that they fall to signal the start of something different. Something new.
Someday, I would love to watch them fall with you.
Satoshi.
I was smiling like an idiot as I skipped towards the hotel lobby.
Who would have thought that my first time here in Japan would be my most memorable trip ever. I got to meet the guy I had been fantasizing for the last 6 months not to mention he wants to see me AGAIN!

Satoshi.
